The GenOUT Chorus is the Washington, DC area’s first-ever vocal ensemble for LGBTQ youth and their allies. It operates under the two-fold mission: (1) to give young LGBTQA people a voice, and (2) to connect that voice to community. The ensemble is open to all singers between the ages of 13 and 18. Since its debut in spring 2015, the GenOUT Chorus has performed at the Lincoln Theater, the Kennedy Center, and the White House. Membership in 2016-17 included about two dozen singers from over twenty schools in and around the DC metro area.

Members pay an annual membership fee ($150), which helps the Chorus with expenses such as rehearsal hall rental, music purchase, and event costs. No one is turned away for an inability to pay the fee. The GenOUT Chorus rehearses weekly, on Sundays 1:00-2:30 PM at GMCW’s rehearsal home: 641 S Street, NW (the renovated Wonder Bread Factory), with occasional evening rehearsals and a twice-yearly day-long retreat.
