The GenOUT Chorus is the Washington, DC area’s first-ever vocal ensemble for LGBTQ youth and their allies. It operates under the two-fold mission: (1) to give young LGBTQA people a voice, and (2) to connect that voice to community. The ensemble is open to all singers between the ages of 13 and 18. Since its debut in spring 2015, the GenOUT Chorus has performed at the Lincoln Theater, the Kennedy Center, Washington National Cathedral, the White House, and the GALA Choruses Festival. Membership in 2017-18 includes over two dozen singers from sixteen schools in and around the DC metro area.

Join the GenOUT Chorus

The GenOUT Chorus is open to all young people ages 13-18: LGBTQ and allies. No auditions are required to participate. To begin the registration process, click on the button below to submit your information to our conductor.

Members pay an annual membership fee ($150), which helps the Chorus with expenses such as rehearsal hall rental, music purchase, and event costs. No one is turned away for an inability to pay the fee; scholarships up to 100% are available. The GenOUT Chorus rehearses weekly, on Sundays 1:00-3:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Place United Methodist Church (900 Massachusetts Ave., NW), with occasional evening rehearsals and a twice-yearly day-long retreat. GenOUT School/Organization Visits

For over a dozen years, GMCW’s GenOUT youth outreach program has sent teams of GMCW singers to schools and organizations around the DC area. We typically meet in small groups with a school’s GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance), but we can also make a presentation for your entire school body. GSA advisors and organization leaders can request a GenOUT school/organization visit by clicking the link below.
